CrO3 chromium trioxide, chromium(VI) oxide

Category:

Description

Chromic Acid Flakes is also called Chromium Trioxide or Chromic Acid Anhydride.

This is available in the form of small flakes of dark red or chocolate-colored appearance, which are easy to dissolve in water. It is hygroscopic in nature and forms a saturated of 62.6% CrO3 at 25 degrees Centigrade. Though it is an acid, dilute solution it exerts a protective action on metal surfaces like mild steel, zinc, aluminum, copper, brass, etc. at room temperature, by the formation of a thin passivating film.

Technical Analysis:

CrO3:99.70 %

Sulphate as SO4 0.1 – 0.15% Max
Iron as Fe Trace
Insoluble matter 0.10% Max

Applications

The largest use of Chromic Acid is in the Electroplating Industry. Electrodeposition of chromium both as decorative and as hard chrome types are done with chromic acid only. Other uses are as dilute solutions for passivating or inhibition on metal surfaces, as an oxidizing agent for organic chemicals, and as a laboratory reagent.

Packing

50-kilogram iron drums sealed airtight

Storage & Shelf Life

Can be stored indefinitely without deterioration if the seal is intact. Keep away from inflammable organic matter.

Physiological Aspect

Handle all solutions of chromic acid with gloves on. If it comes in contact with any cuts or bruises on the skin, immediate washing of the affected part with a 5% solution of Bisulphite and then with water is recommended to prevent the formation of Chrome sores.
