Potassium Di-Chromate

Potassium Dichromate is an orange to red-colored, crystalline, inorganic compound that emits toxic chromium fumes upon heating. Potassium dichromate is highly corrosive and is a strong oxidizing agent. This substance is used in wood preservatives, in the manufacture of pigments, and in photomechanical processes, but is mainly replaced by sodium dichromate. Potassium dichromate primarily affects the respiratory tract causing ulcerations, shortness of breath, bronchitis, pneumonia, and asthma but can also affect the gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidneys, and immune system. This substance is a known human carcinogen and is associated with an increased risk of developing lung cancer and cancer of the sinonasal cavity. (NCI05)

Description

Orange-red monoclinic or three orthorhombic crystals. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water. Insoluble in alcohol.
For the production of chrome alum, chrome oxide, chrome yellow pigment, welding, printing ink, leather tanning agent, also used as colorants, printing and dyeing and mordant enamel
For the production of chrome alum, chrome oxide, chrome yellow pigment. The enamel industry uses it to mix with feldspar powder, quartz sand, and so on. Used to match the match head, anti-oxidation effect. As a light leather tanning agent. Mordant dyes are used as mordant dyeing and printing. Synthetic perfume as an oxidant. For welding electrode, printing ink, metal passivation. Oxidant and catalyst for organic synthesis and pharmaceutical raw materials.
Used in the manufacture of chemicals, chrome mordant, inks, pigments, spices, glass, ceramics, lacquer, explosives, medicine, etc.
Used as an oxidizing agent, potassium alum, and used in the manufacture of chemical reagents
It is also used as a reference reagent, a redox titration agent, a chromatographic analysis reagent, and an oxidizing agent
