Sodium Sulphate

Sodium sulfate is a major commodity chemical that falls under an inorganic compound, formed as a co-product of the acidification of sodium chromate to dichromate compounds. It is having the formula Na2SO4. Sodium sulfate finds valuable uses in the manufacturing of paper, glass, starch compounds, textiles, and detergents.

Description

It is a white monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder, odorless. It tastes bitter and salty. It’s also called anhydrous mirabilite, relative density is 2.68. The melting point is 884 centigrade. It’s soluble in water and glycerin, insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is alkaline. When exposed to air, It’ll easily absorb moisture and turn into aqueous sodium sulfate. Fine anhydrous sodium sulfate with high purity is called Glauber salt.

Application
1. Chemical industry: manufacture of sodium sulfide sodium silicate water glass

2. Paper industry: used in the manufacture of sulfate pulp cooking agent

3. Glass industry: replace soda ash to do co-solvent

4. Textile industry: allocate vinylon concreting spinning

5. Laboratory wash barium salt

6. Organic synthesis laboratory post-processing desiccant

7. Non-ferrous metal metallurgy, leather, etc.
